Brand Positioning for Entrepreneurs: How to Stand Out in a Crowded Market
Positioning is the clear answer to the question: why should this customer choose us instead of the alternatives?
The four parts of positioning
- Audience: who exactly you serve.
- Problem: what they need solved.
- Difference: what you do differently or better.
- Proof: evidence that it is true, such as results, testimonials, process or experience.
A statement template
"For [audience] who [problem], we provide [solution] that [key difference], unlike [alternative]."
Test it
If a competitor could say the same sentence, it is not yet a position. Make it specific and true.
Consistency
Use the same message on your website, social profiles, proposals and conversations. Repeated, consistent messages are what make a brand memorable.
Only claim what you can prove
Trust is the most valuable marketing asset. Overpromising creates disappointed customers and damages your reputation; specific, honest claims build it.
